Fluorescent Lamps: Non-incandescent | Do NOT place in the garbage cart. This item NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling or accepted at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) can now be recycled at Menards or Home Depot. Only CFL are accepted. It is illegal to throw CFLs in the garbage due to the presence of a small amount of mercury. For more information on your recycling options, visit earth911.org or www.pca.state.mn.us . Recycling: Call a nearby retailer or hardware store to see if they accept fluorescent lamps for recycling. Check Xcel Energy's program for participating retailers. | ||
Food Scraps | This item is compostable and should be placed in your organics recycling cart in a compostable bag (paper bag or certified compostable plastic) for collection. Residents may also bring compostable items to the organics drop-off sites located around the City. Fruit and vegetable scraps can be composted in your backyard in a composting bin (see Home Composting for more information). If the above options are not feasible, bag and place inside the garbage cart. |
