Batteries | DO NOT PLACE ANY BATTERY IN GARBAGE CART. ONLY Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling customers can place the following batteries with their recycling for pickup. How to Recycle: Tape the positive (+) terminal of lithium ion batteries to prevent fires. Place in a clear plastic bag and place on top of your recycling container. ACCEPTED - Any type of household batteries. Includes the following chemistries: Alkaline, carbon zinc, gel cell, lithium, lithium ion, mercuric oxide, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, silver oxide, small sealed lead acid, and zinc air. NOT ACCEPTED--Vehicle Lead Acid Batteries. Boat, car, motorcycle, snowmobile, tractor, truck or other vehicle batteries are NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling. Disposal with garbage is prohibited. Any retail store that sells lead acid batteries is required by state law to accept and recycle up to five (5) batteries at no charge; no purchase required. Are not accepted in the garbage or recycling carts.
