Acorns | Disposal with organics recycling is prohibited. Do NOT place inside the organics recycling cart. Acorns can be included with grass clippings and leaves. Place in bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons. State law prohibits disposing of yard waste with the garbage. South Transfer Station does not accept yard waste. Yard waste collected mid-April through mid-November, weather permitting. | ||

Aerosol Cans | Only if the can is empty (no liquid or pressure left), may it go in the garbage. Aerosol cans that are not empty may leak or explode during sorting or baling. American Flag | Do NOT place in the garbage cart. Contact your local American Legion, who disposes of American Flags with respect, and in the proper manner. | ||
Ammunition: Explosives & Guns | Do NOT place in the garbage cart. Not collected or accepted by Solid Waste & Recycling or with a voucher at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited. Call your local police precinct for proper disposal. If you find ammunition that you would like recovered by the Police Department call 911 or the non-emergency number for the Police Department. 612-348-2345. |

Animals: Deceased | Call Minneapolis 311. Disposal with organics recycling or garbage is prohibited. Do NOT place in the organics recycling or garbage carts. This item NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling or accepted at the South Transfer Station. Pets: Contact a veterinarian, cremation service, pet cemetery, or humane society or call 311 to get in touch with Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. Farm Animals: Call the MN Board of Animal Health. Road Kill: Call the road authority that has immediate responsibility. Call 311 for deceased animals on City streets, Hennepin County for County roads, and MnDOT for State managed roads. Rendering Services: Call the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. |

Answering Machines | If the answering machine contains a battery, remove the battery. Hennepin County's HHW & Drop-Off Facilities will accept for recycling. If unable to deliver to Hennepin County, bag and place the answering machine inside the garbage cart. Please remember to recycle the battery by placing it in a plastic bag on top of your recycling cart. | ||

Any store that sell tires is requireded by state law to take them back; they may charge a disposal fee. |
