Acorns

Acorns can be included with grass clippings and leaves. Place in plastic bags. Each bag must weigh less than 40 lbs. Do not use bags larger than 33 gallons.

State law prohibits disposing of yard waste with the garbage. South Transfer Station does not accept yard waste.

Yard waste collected mid-April through mid-November, weather permitting.

Aerosol Cans

Only if the can is empty (no liquid or pressure left), may it go in the garbage.

If not empty (still has liquid or pressure left), then Federal law requires treating pressurized cans as hazardous waste.

Aerosol cans that are not empty may leak or explode during sorting or baling. Do NOT place in the garbage cart. This item NOT collected by Solid Waste & Recycling or accepted at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited.

This item collected on recycling week only. Limit of 2 large items per recycling week. Place next to the garbage cart on the recycling day. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste". Item will be picked up on next business day after recycling day.

Aluminum - Foil/Trays

Aluminum foil and/or trays. Rinse and place in paper bags with aluminum cans.

 

Aluminum Cans

Aluminum or steel food and/or beverage containers. Rinse and place in paper bags.

 

American Flag

Do NOT place in the garbage cart. Contact your local American Legion, who dispose of American Flags with respect, and in the proper manner.

   

Ammunition: Explosives & Guns

Do NOT place in the garbage cart. Not collected or accepted by Solid Waste & Recycling or with a voucher at the South Transfer Station. Disposal with garbage is prohibited. Call your local police precinct or 911 for proper disposal. If you find an item that may be an explosive, do not move it--call 911.

Call City Hall for local disposal ordinance guidelines. If you prefer cremation contact a veterinarian, or call Midwest Cremation Service at (763) 753-5510.

Farm Animals: Call the MN Board of Animal Health at (651) 296-2942.

Road Kill: Call the Department of Natural Resources at (651) 296-6157 or 888-MINNDNR

Rendering Services: Call the Minnesota Board of Animal Health at (651) 296-2942 x18

 

Answering Machines

If the answering machine contains a battery, remove the battery. Bag and place the answering machine inside the garbage cart. Please remember to recycle the battery.

By state law, a person cannot place brake fluid, motor oil, oil filters, power steering fluid, or transmission fluid in the garbage, on the land, in water, down a sewer, or in the storm drain.

Some automotive service Stations accept automotive fluids and oil filters, usually for a fee.

 

Automobile Parts

Check the Yellow Page under “Scrap Metals”. Fenders, doors, engine blocks, etc. can be brought to a scrap metal dealer for recycling.

 

Automobile Tires

Disposal with garbage is prohibited. Do NOT place in the garbage cart. Solid Waste does NOT pickup this item.

Any stores that sell tires are required by state law to take them back; they may charge a disposal fee.
