Organics educational reminder placed on all organics carts the week of April 17Organics_PaperItem_CartHanger

Organics collection crews are leaving an educational flyer on all organics carts during the week of April 17th reminding residents that plastic-lined paper products like decorative paper plates, ice cream tubs and Chinese takeout containers may not be placed in the organics.  The cart hanger will be placed on ALL organics carts and DOES NOT mean that you placed incorrect items in your cart, it is simply an educational reminder for all.  Plastic-lined paper products are one of the most common contaminants we find.  Please help spread the word about this reminder to your neighbors.

If you have any questions on if an item is compostable or not, check our website, search for the item on BPI’s website, or send us an email at

Some reasons why your organics might not be picked up include:

Collection Time

Your organics recycling will be picked up at any time starting at 6 a.m. on your collection day.  You may notice your organics are collected at about the same time every week.  Please understand that changes in weather conditions, crew assignments and equipment problems can change your pickup to earlier or later in the day.  Please make sure your organics cart is always out by 6 a.m. on your collection day.

Missed Organics

If you do not find an educational tag and you believe your organics were missed, please wait until after 3:30 p.m. on the day of pickup before calling Solid Waste & Recycling at 612-673-2917.  Sorry, but we will not return for your organics if your cart was not out on time.
