Project Description

The objective of the Residential Energy-Efficiency Project is to recruit 4,000 Minneapolis homeowners into and provide related supporting services for the Community Energy Services “CES” program, a residential retrofit program run by the Center for Energy and Environment “CEE.” The program relies on community-based marketing and outreach strategies to recruit participants. The entry point into the program is attending a community workshop, giving homeowners an overview of the program and providing training on specific energy-saving actions the homeowner can take. Low-cost materials are given out at the workshop for homeowner installation. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the home visit, which is available for a small co-pay. The home visits are approximately 1.5 hours and are conducted by two specially-trained staff, an Energy Counselor and an Energy Technician. These staff provide assistance to the homeowner in installing low-cost energy efficiency materials, as well as make recommendations for major upgrades. Homeowners will receive a feedback report after their home visit, which provides the homeowner with individualized targets for reducing their energy usage, and allows the homeowner to track their progress in reducing energy usage. The report will compare a homeowner’s use to both their “peers” and low energy users. CEE will also provide supporting services to guide homeowners through the process of doing the upgrades recommended by the home visits, and will help ensure the work quality of the contractors who do these upgrades. A new online initiative has been added to the CES program. Home owners can now watch a video presentation then schedule a Home Energy Visit directly from the site.
