The City of Minneapolis Department of Public Works is developing its 10-year Transportation Action Plan. The purpose of the Transportation Action Plan is to identify specific actions to undertake within the next ten years to implement the transportation goals and policies articulated in Minneapolis 2040, the City’s draft Comprehensive Plan. The City is producing one Transportation Action Plan, with many components. Each of the plan components are interrelated and all will be integrated in the Transportation Action Plan. The plan components will include:

Relationship between Minneapolis 2040 and the Transportation Action Plan

We heard you! Minneapolis staff held thousands of conversations throughout the past two years while developing Minneapolis 2040, the City’s draft Comprehensive Plan. Minneapolis 2040 reflects what the City heard from the community, including over 50 meetings and thousands of conversations with residents, business owners, and others. Those comments, ideas, and vision for the future are articulated in the draft goals and policies. Minneapolis 2040 provides the foundation and starting point from which the Transportation Action Plan will be developed.

Draft Community Engagement Plan

Over the next year, the City plans to engage the people of Minneapolis in an equitable, effective, transparent, and creative way to develop the Transportation Action Plan. With input from various partners including staff from the City of Minneapolis Departments of Public Works, Health, Communications, Hennepin County, Metro Transit, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City has created a Draft Community Engagement Plan that outlines the process, engagement design, and techniques which will be implemented over the course of the next year, from summer 2018-summer 2019.

To provide feedback on the Draft Community Engagement Plan, please email comments by August 20, 2018 to Virginie Nadimi, [email protected].

Timeline of Plan development

Early work to prepare for the Transportation Action Plan began in late 2017 by assessing the City’s existing transportation action plan, Access Minneapolis. These Access assessments identified and guided areas of focus for the Transportation Action Plan. Development of the Transportation Action Plan began in early 2018 and is expected to last through summer 2019.

Structure of Plan development

The work to develop the Transportation Action Plan will be the effort of many people, internal and external to City of Minneapolis staff. The following committees will help drive the development of the plan.
