Lyndale School has a very active Safe Routes to School program that includes a daily "walking school bus" (walk to school group), and a weekly "bus stop and walk" event, whereby the majority of Lyndale's students are unloaded remotely for a 1/2 walk to school. This project will help improve crossings along this route along Pleasant Ave S, which is also defined in the City's Bike Master Plan as a future bicycle boulevard. The project will also improve the crossing at 34th St W and Blaisdell Ave S, which will aid students who walk to Lyndale School from the east, or who attend after school programs at the Blaisdell YMCA. Improvements will include pedestrian flashers, curb ramp upgrades, and curb extensions, varying by location. These are all standard pedestrian enhancements found elsewhere throughout the city.
City staff were present at the regularly scheduled Lyndale Neighborhood Association Meeting on July 27th, 2015 at 6:30pm at Painter Park to discuss the project. Staff took feedback on the preliminary layout and answered questions regarding the project.
The project is expected to begin construction in summer 2017.
