Water Permits

 

Water Tap Permit

The City of Minneapolis issues Water Tap Permits to licensed plumbers who need to tap or connect to the City water main.  The City of Minneapolis inspects and records the work done by the plumber to ensure safety of residents.

 

Water Meter Permit

The City of Minneapolis issues Meter Set Permits for licensed plumbers to install a water meter.  The City of Minneapolis also sells various size couplings for meter installations.  Meter information is provided to the Minneapolis Meter Services Department and the Minneapolis Water Billing department to create or update a water account.

 

Water Cut Off Permit

The City of Minneapolis issues water cut off permits to licensed plumbers to eliminate water taps from city water mains for a demolition or new service line.  The City of Minneapolis inspects and records the work done by the plumber to ensure safety of residents.

 

Hydrant Commercial Permit

The Water Works Permit Office issues hydrant permits for the use of water for contractors and plumbers when there is no availability of water.   Hydrants are now metered and billed at the City of Minneapolis Utility Billing Rate (per cubic feet of water).  Note:  A Deposit is required for the meter and RPZ that is attached to the hydrant. 

 

Compliance Certificates/Demolition Permit

The City of Minneapolis enforces demolition activities for properties that are not code compliant and deemed unsafe (Building Construction Permit Information).

 

Hydrant Garden Permit

The Water Works Permit Office issues garden permits to neighborhood organizations for use of a specific fire hydrant.  Neighborhood organizations must have legal documentation from the owner giving permission to use the land. These permits are issued seasonally.
