Public Works Internship Details

Engineering Assistant 2019

The Internship:

·         Under immediate supervision, assist civil engineers and senior engineering technicians with various Public Works projects.

·         Approximately 70% outdoor work, 30% indoor work.

·         Prefer civil engineering students, surveyors, pre-engineering students or civil technicians.

·         Other college majors may apply.

All applicants must:

·         Be 18 or older

·         Have a valid driver’s license

·         Registered for college

·         Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

Compensation:

·         Varies with education and experience

·         Wages typically start at $15.00/hour (effective: Jan 2019)

Duration:

·         May to August

·         Possibility to extend thru. Nov

Hours:

·         40 hours per week

·         Mon.-Fri. 7:00 am to 3:00pm

·         Willing to accommodate school schedules

GIS Internship Summer 2019

The Internships

The Surface Water & Sewers Division of Public Works is responsible for planning, designing, operating, and maintaining the sanitary sewer and drainage systems within the City of Minneapolis. 

We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the following internship positions:

·         SWS Planning and Design

·         SWS GIS

·         Water Resources Regulatory

Under immediate supervision, assist civil engineers and senior engineering technicians with various data entry projects – inclusive of geographic mapping, reporting, modeling, and updating of infrastructure improvements in spatial map.

Recycling Outreach Internship 2019

Can you speak a second language? Fluency in Spanish, Somali or Hmong highly preferred!

The Internship
The Recycling Outreach Intern will help improve awareness and participation in the City’s recycling and organics recycling program.  Interns may evaluate program success, challenges and areas for improvement by doing some or all of the following:

All applicants must:

·         Be 18 or older

·         Have a valid driver’s license

·         Registered for college

·         Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

Compensation:

·         Varies with education and experience

·         Wages typically start at $15.00/hour (effective: Jan 2019)

Duration:

·         May to August

Hours:

·         32 hours per week

·         4 days a week, 8-hour shifts

·         Potential evening and weekend events

Transportation Engineering & Design Internship 2019

All applicants must:

·         Be 18 or older

·         Have a valid driver’s license

·         Be registered for college

·         Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

Compensation:

·         Varies with education and experience

·         Wages typically start at $15.00/hour (effective: Jan 2019)

Duration:

·         May to August

Transportation Planning/Programming Internship 2019

The Internship
The Transportation Planning Intern will provide support for short
and long term transportation projects, programs, plans and
initiatives to positively impact and improve the transportation
system in Minneapolis.

Potential projects include:

·         Collect data and prepare reports for multimodal transportation projects or planning efforts.

·         Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and prepare inventory reports. 

·         Assist with the development and delivery of the City’s annual bike and pedestrian count program.

·         Assist with special projects as needed, including video collection and processing, parking counts, and collection of digital imagery of upcoming or completed projects.

·         Support documentation, mapping, and community engagement materials for the update to the City’s 10-Year Transportation Action Plan.

·         Summarize internship activities into a report.

·         Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

·         Wages typically start at $15.00/hour (effective: Jan 2019)

Duration:

·         Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am to 4:00pm

·         Willing to accommodate school schedules
