Police Reports

Anyone may request public information created and maintained by the Minneapolis Police Department.

Access to Private, Confidential, and Non-Public data will only be released in accordance with Minnesota State Statute 13.82 on a case by case basis. Please contact the Records Unit for more information and requirements for access to this type of data.

A public information police report is created by the Minneapolis Police Department and includes the date, time, address, nature of the incident, adult persons involved, and a brief description of what occurred.

If you are coming to Room 31 in person, call the Records Information Unit first to make sure a report is available.

Police reports may also be viewed free of charge at the public information terminals in Room 31. MPD daily crime summary reports are available from 8:00 Am - 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays.

Police reports are available beginning in the year 1990. All reports are processed in accordance with the State of Minnesota Data Privacy Law and department policy.

The Police Records Information Unit does not release Juvenile Arrest data.

If the police did not write a report, you may request a 911 Incident Detail Report by completing a request form.
