The Bomb/Arson Unit investigates several different types of incidents. The Arson Unit investigates fires of suspicious origin and arsons. The Arson Unit is an inter-department effort of the Minneapolis Fire and Police Departments. Minneapolis Fire Department investigators are on duty 24-hours a day to provide detailed cause and origin investigation of fire scenes. These reports are then assigned to a Minneapolis Police Sergeant for secondary investigation.
The Bomb Unit responds to calls of suspicious packages, suspected explosive devices, military ordnance, illegal fireworks, hazardous explosive chemicals and clandestine laboratories throughout the state of Minnesota. The Bomb Unit also conducts secondary investigation of all incidents related to explosive devices, bomb threats and fireworks. The Bomb Unit provides technical support to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and provides instruction and training to members of the Police Department.
