Be alert while traveling downtown
June 23, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) The City reminds everyone to remain alert and patient as downtown streets will be especially busy as a result of major projects and traffic diversion.
Drivers downtown should be aware of their surroundings and be mindful of pedestrians, bicyclists and traffic control agents. Under Minnesota law, drivers must follow instructions from Minneapolis traffic control agents. Their direction overrides all traffic signals and signs.
The City will be taking extra steps to help pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers get around safely in downtown Minneapolis. Several City departments are collaborating to reduce unnecessary construction and to increase staffing intersections to assist with traffic flow. The City will also be ticketing vehicles obstructing sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes and driving lanes.
Major projects will divert more traffic downtown
Lowry Tunnel restrictions will be in place until mid-September. Several highway ramps in Minneapolis will also close as a result of I-94 construction work stretching from Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center.
METRO Blue and Green Line service downtown will also be shut down until July 3. Buses are replacing trains from U.S. Bank Stadium Station to Target Field in both directions. Trains will resume service 5 a.m. Monday, July 3. For more information, go to metrotransit.org/closure or call 612-373-3333.
