Demonstration for the media
Reporters can learn how to use a new online tool to monitor City spending with minority-owned and women-owned businesses
What: Staff demonstrates a new online tool that lets City leaders, the media and public see how much City spending goes toward minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
When: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12
Where: City Hall Room 132
350 S. Fifth St.
MORE: The City has taken steps to increase the participation of women-owned and minority-owned businesses in purchasing and contracting, particularly after a 2010 Disparity Study found “strong evidence of large, adverse, and frequently statistically-significant disparities between minority and female participation in business enterprise activity in the City’s relevant market area and the actual current availability of those businesses.”
Through a 2015 staff direction forming the City’s Supplier Diversity Workgroup, staff was directed to look at various ways in which to provide more opportunities for minority-owned and women-owned small businesses. To help achieve that, the Workgroup created a Spend Diversity Dashboard: an online tool that lets City leaders and the public see how individual City departments are doing when it comes to diversity spending, and where significant improvements could be made.
At this briefing, staff will demonstrate the dashboard to the media and explain the data it contains. While it’s not required, it’s recommended that members of the media bring their own laptops to the demonstration.
