WHAT:             To help Minneapolis residents prepare for spring home remodeling and residential building projects, the City of Minneapolis Development Services Customer Service Center is hosting a spring Open House event on Wednesday, April 30th from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Residents are encouraged to stop in and tour the Customer Service Center, ask City development staff remodeling, building, permitting or zoning questions, and attend free informational seminars.

The Open House event is designed to inform residents of the center’s location, what to bring with them when they visit, and what to expect to happen during their visit.  The goal is to make the Customer Service Center and City staff more accessible, their visit more efficient, and projects easier to complete.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and Minneapolis Council Members will be touring the center from 3:30-4:30 p.m.  At 4:00 p.m., the Mayor and Director of Development Services, Doug Kress will share a few brief remarks.  A series of complimentary how-to informational seminars will be presented starting at 4:30 p.m.  Topics to be covered include: “Building a Deck – What do you need from the City?,” “Zoning 101,” “Healthy Home Environments,” “Home Business Licensing 101,” “Green Initiatives – green Roofs, rain barrels, managing water runoff, and more,” “Homeowners guide to permitting – which remodeling projects need permits?”  A full list of informational sessions and presentation times is available online.

The event is free and open to the public.  Residential building permits and critical parking permits will be available for purchase throughout the event.  Attendees will have a chance to win a free carbon monoxide/smoke detector from Minneapolis Regulatory Services and while supplies last, free home radon test kits will be available from the Minneapolis Health Department.
