City Council votes on recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day

WHAT:                       The Minneapolis City Council will vote at its regular meeting on a resolution that would recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day. Prior to the City Council meeting, a community reception will be held in City Hall.

WHEN & WHERE:      Friday, April 25           
                                   8:30-9:30 a.m. – reception in room 319 of City Hall, 350 S. Fifth St.
                                   9:30 a.m. – City Council meeting, Council Chamber, 317  City Hall

MORE:                       Along with the federal government, Minneapolis has for many years recognized the   second Monday in October as Columbus Day. If the proposed resolution is approved, beginning this year, the City would now recognize the day as Indigenous Peoples Day.

The community reception will include The Ringing Shield Drum group, as well as elected and community leaders.
