April 24, 2014 (Minneapolis) – On Saturday, April 26, the City of Minneapolis and developer partner Artspace will celebrate the construction of four single family Green Homes North homes designed with working artists in mind. The celebration will begin with a toast and brief remarks from Artspace Vice President Heidi Kurtze, City of Minneapolis Residential and Real Estate Principal Project Coordinator Cherie Shoquist, Homewood Studios Artist and Owner George Roberts, Wells Fargo Regional Diverse Segments Manager Nicole Knuckles, and Twin Cities Community Land Bank CFO John Dolphin at 11:30 a.m. at Homewood Studios located at 2400 Plymouth Avenue. “Artspace is thrilled to be part of the Green Homes North program and offering an innovative product type in North Minneapolis,” said Heidi Kurtze, Vice President of Artspace. “We are grateful to the City of Minneapolis for their leadership and partnership and to our funding partners the Pohlad Foundation and Wells Fargo for their generous support. The four artist homes will help anchor a growing arts district along Plymouth Avenue.”
Green Homes North is a City of Minneapolis initiative to build 100 affordable, quality, and sustainable homes in North Minneapolis to help revitalize neighborhoods within the community most affected by the housing foreclosure crisis and the 2011 tornado. Last year, seven developers, five nonprofit and two private, broke ground on 27 green homes. Another 18 are scheduled to break ground this year by nine developers.
