Celebrate Older Americans Month May 30 at UCare Skyway Senior Center
May 28, 2013 (MINNEAPOLIS) May is Older Americans Month and the City of Minneapolis along with UCare Skyway Senior Center will celebrate this month and all the contributions older Americans have made to this country with an event Thursday, May 30 at the senior center. The UCare Skyway Senior Center is located on the downtown skyway on LaSalle Avenue between 9th and 10th streets in the Target store building.
The celebration runs from noon – 2 p.m. and there will be food, beverages, time for socializing and a trivia contest conducted by UCare. At 1 p.m. Mayor R.T. Rybak, Council Vice President Robert Lilligren and Minneapolis Health Department Commissioner Gretchen Musicant will take part in a program celebrating the importance of older Americans.
Every year since 1963, May has been a month to appreciate and celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions to our communities. The theme for Older Americans Month 2013 is "Unleash the Power of Age,” a fitting theme as older Americans are productive, active, and influential members of society, sharing essential talents, wisdom, and life experience with their families, friends, and neighbors.
Open since 2001 the UCare Skyway Senior Center is a public/private partnership between UCare and the City of Minneapolis that provides a safe, accessible, and friendly place for people age 50 and over to socialize, take a class, exercise, connect to community resources, use a computer, read, relax, and chat with others over a cup of coffee.
