Minneapolis makes huge investment in 2013 street construction
WHAT: Mayor Rybak, City Council Member Don Samuels and Public Works Director Steve Kotke announce the City’s investment in streets this construction season at the site of one of the biggest construction projects in the city this year.
WHEN: 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013
WHERE: 2nd Ave. N and Fremont Ave. N
MORE: This year, the City of Minneapolis will see a big increase in the investment made in streets this summer. Plans call for a 34 percent increase over last year’s investment. The funding will help the City reconstruct, repave and seal coat 54.75 miles of roadway all around town.
Mayor Rybak and Public Works Director Steve Kotke will discuss 2013 street construction and talk about the specific streets and bridges that will have work done this year. Council Member Don Samuels will also be on hand to discuss the Van White Memorial Boulevard project, a significant street and bridge link which will open later this summer after two years of construction.
The news conference will take place at the north end of Van White Memorial Boulevard construction. The project is extending the street south of Glenwood Avenue, over rail lines and under Interstate 394, to connect with Dunwoody Boulevard. When the work is completed, Van White will provide both north and south Minneapolis vital connections to each other, bridging a divide that has separated them for decades.
