Freeway construction and marathon will affect traffic this weekend
June 1, 2012 (MINNEAPOLIS) Construction and a running event will affect traffic in Minneapolis this weekend. Drivers can expect delays and should plan accordingly.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is closing westbound Interstate 94 from Highway 280 to Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue from 10 p.m. tonight, June 1 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 4. MnDOT crews will resurface the freeway during that time. Ramp closures to and from this stretch of westbound I-94 will begin at 9 p.m. June 1.
Also, on Sunday, the Minneapolis Marathon will be taking place on West River Parkway. The street will be closed from Broadway to 54th Street beginning at 6 a.m. The parkway north of the Interstate 35W overpass will reopen at around 9:15 a.m., with the rest of West River Parkway opening by 3 p.m. Drivers who use this street should find alternate routes. Also, people heading to the marathon on Sunday should remember of the westbound I-94 closure and find alternate routes.
