Deputy’s funeral procession taking place in Minneapolis

The funeral procession for a Minnesota sheriff’s deputy will make its way through north Minneapolis Wednesday, Aug. 18. Residents are encouraged to turn out along the route of the procession in honor of Mahnomen County Deputy Christopher Dewey.

The procession begins at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park at around 12:30 p.m., and will end at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. Law enforcement vehicles will travel down Victory Memorial Parkway south from 42nd Street to Dowling Avenue North, then head east on Dowling to the cemetery. One lane of traffic on those streets will be closed to traffic from noon until 2 p.m.

Members of the public may view this procession from sidewalks along the route. People should use good judgment in selecting a safe location for viewing. The cemetery will be closed to the public.

Deputy Dewey was shot in the line of duty on Feb. 18, and died from his injuries on Aug. 9.
