Minneahaha Parkway closed Saturday, July 10
The City of Minneapolis wants to make sure folks are prepared for significant road closures this weekend.
Minnehaha Parkway will be closed Saturday, July 10, for the Lifetime Fitness triathlon from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some significant cross streets will still be open to allow traffic to cross the parkway, including Nicollet Avenue, Hiawatha Avenue, and Interstate 35W. The event also includes closures on Nokomis Parkway, West River Parkway, and Lake Harriet Parkway. Minneapolis has been working to inform as many people as possible about the closures ahead of time. Temporary signs have been posted along the parkways for the past week, and several dozen police and traffic control agents will also be along the route during the event to help direct traffic.
MnDOT will also be closing Eastbound I-94 at 10 p.m. Friday, July 9 between Hwy 280 and I-35E in St. Paul. Eastbound I-94 will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 12.
Both directions of Interstate 94 between I-35W and I-394 also will close at 10 p.m. Friday, July 9. Crews will remove the deck of the LaSalle Avenue Bridge that spans I-94 south of downtown Minneapolis. The bridge itself closed to traffic Tuesday, July 6. Both directions of I-94 between I-35W and I-394 will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 12.
Drivers are asked to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destinations in south and southwest Minneapolis, and remember that taking public transportation is often a good option. Because many Minneapolis streets and neighborhoods are particularly active in the summer, drivers are reminded to slow down, watch for pedestrians and bikes, and show common courtesy to others who share the roads.
For more information on the Interstate 94 closures visit MnDOT’s website or call MnDOT’s traveler information hotline by dialing 511.
