MPHA to open two- to four-bedroom units waiting list on June 22

The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) is announcing the opening of its public housing family waiting list for two- to four-bedroom units for the first time since June 2007. Requests for applications start Tuesday, June 22, 2010, through Saturday, June 26, 2010 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Applications can also be downloaded between these dates at www.mphaonline.org. All applications can be requested over the phone or downloaded and applicants need not come to MPHA’s office in person to apply to apply. Completed applications must be returned by mail and postmarked no later than Friday, July 16. 2010 to:

MPHA will also open the family wait list on the third Wednesday of each month beginning in September, 2010.

What’s Next?

All eligible applicants will be randomly placed on the waiting list according to preference points without regard for when the call is received during this period. Applicants who do not meet the preference criteria will be informed and not be placed on the waiting list.

MPHA will then review and process applications of those who have met the preference criteria and notify families to schedule an appointment to complete the application and screening process prior to signing a lease.

Families with approved applications will be housed as soon as homes become available and according to their place on the waiting list. If applicants are qualified for MPHA family housing they may also have a choice to live in a suburban public housing unit.

Other Waiting Lists

The Near Elderly (ages 50-61) non-disabled one-bedroom (highrise only) waiting list for one or two person households will remain open for pre-applications Monday, Wednesday and Friday; MPHA will continue to take applications Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. for disabled adults (18-61) years of age and seniors 62 plus at 1001 Washington Avenue North, Minneapolis, Minnesota

MPHA requires a current address for each applicant. All applicants should inform MPHA in writing of a change in family composition or address.
