Jeff Johnson to head Minneapolis Convention Center
Jeff Johnson has been chosen to lead the Minneapolis Convention Center as its new executive director. Johnson has been Director of Event Services at the convention center since 2006. He also served as Guest Services Manager at the center for two years and has more than a decade of management experience in sports and convention facility management. He has been serving as interim director at the center since February 2010.
In his position at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Johnson will manage the Center’s more than 200 employees, oversee its $27 million operating budget, and be responsible for strategic planning and developing relationships with local, regional, and national partners and clients.
The City-owned Minneapolis Convention Center is a state-of-the-art facility with more than 475,000 feet of flexible exhibit space. In 2009, it hosted more than 450 events, drawing more than 750,000 attendees.
Johnson has a business administration degree from Augustana College and a master’s degree in sport administration from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Prior to coming to Minneapolis, he worked at the BiLo Center in Greenville, South Carolina, and was director of Guest Services for Xcel Energy Center and Rivercentre in Saint Paul for four years. As part of his duties, Johnson will also oversee the City’s relationship with the operator of Target Center, which is also a City-owned facility.
