New exhibit showcases south Minneapolis art, artists

An arts exhibition showcasing the work of south Minneapolis community artists will soon open at Intermedia Arts on Friday, March 19. The exhibition, running March 19 – April 16, is sponsored and curated by the South Minneapolis Arts Business Association (SMARTS), a news association of artists and arts related businesses that promotes and supports arts in south Minneapolis.

Grand opening and an artist reception will take place at 7 p.m. on March 19. The program will feature south Minneapolis literary and spoken word artists.

The exhibition will also serve as the launch of the SMARTS guide which is a map of visual and performing art destinations, artists, education and art service businesses in south Minneapolis. The SMARTS GUIDE will lead visitors to arts businesses and destination points in south Minneapolis.

The City of Minneapolis works to strengthen local business organizations and help stabilize commercial areas so that they contribute to the economic growth of their members and assist the city in attainment of its economic development objectives.
