Minneapolis Police honor officers and civilians at annual awards ceremony

Family members, friends and members of the media were present at Minneapolis City Hall on Monday, July 20, to recognize achievements and bravery of police officers and citizens at a Police Department awards ceremony. Award winners were recognized for exceptional service, bringing honor to the department, and for saving a life or placing themselves in personal danger to protect the public. Police Chief Tim Dolan presented a number of awards to citizens and officers in the ‘Chief’s Award of Merit’, ‘Life Saving’, and ‘Medal of Valor’ categories.

Minneapolis Police Chief congratulating Sgt. Dara Westmeyer, one of 38 officers and citizens receiving awards on July 20. Sgt. Westermeyer was awarded a medal of valor for risking his life by apprehending an armed suspect who was fleeing police at a busy downtown intersection.
