Prepare for road closures around Minneapolis June 13 weekend

Several road and street construction projects, as well as a popular bike race mean drivers should plan ahead for road closures in Minneapolis the weekend of June 12-13. Drivers should plan extra time and plan alternate routes in these areas:

Interstate 35W

I-35W is closed in both directions from Highway 62 to I-94 from 10 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 15. Crews will be doing pavement work, bridge deck repair and placing bridge segments at the eastern junction of I-35W and Highway 62 during this period. Detours will be posted. Prepare for major delays.

Interstate 94

Westbound I-94 from Hwy 280 and I-35W will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 15 to allow crews to prep and paint four bridges. Eastbound lanes will be open. Prepare for major delays.

Other closures in Minneapolis

University Avenue SE closed on June 12 and June 26 weekends

All lanes along University Avenue SE between 17th Avenue SE and Oak Street SE will be closed to all traffic on the weekends of June 12 and June 26. This portion of University Avenue SE will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, June 12 through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 15 and again at 7 p.m. Friday, June 26 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 29. There will be access to the McNamara Alumni Center and the University Avenue Parking Ramp. Detours will be posted.

A portion for 7th Street N nd Avenue N to 7th Street N – 10th Street split will be closed to all traffic from 7 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 15 to set a steel pedestrian walkway between Ramp A and the new Twins ballpark.

A portion of 3rd Avenue N, th Street N and 10th Street N will close at 12 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 15 for ballpark related work.

A portion of 6th Street N nd Avenue N to 1st Avenue N will close to all traffic on Saturday, June 13 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. to allow crews to set steel for the new pedestrian walkway associated with the new Twins ballpark.

Uptown bike race closures

Several streets in the Uptown area of Minneapolis will be closed between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12 for the Minnesota Bicycle Festival and the Nature Valley Grand Prix bicycle race. See attached map for complete details and specific street closures and times.
