Check out Minneapolis’ all-night arts festival

Northern Spark, Minneapolis’ all-night arts festival, will light up the city June 14 with dusk to dawn events including giant video projections, temporary sculptures, dance presentations, concerts and experimental performances.

The opening ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza, 1301 S. Second Ave., where attendees can witness the unveiling of Balancing Ground — the winner of the Creative City Challenge — and enjoy music by Mu Daiko and GRRRL PRTY.

At 9:01 p.m. activities begin at 35 venues throughout Minneapolis, including the convention center, Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Northrop Auditorium, Midtown Greenway, Bell Museum and more. With the exception of the launch party at Orchestra Hall and the pancake breakfasts at Al’s Breakfast and the Bachelor Farmer, all Northern Spark events are free. Metro Transit will be opening the Green Line June 14 and offering free rides all weekend.

Northern Spark is presented by Northern, a nonprofit arts organization with the mission to transform our sense of what’s possible in public space. The art installation Balancing Ground and related programming at the convention center is presented by the Minneapolis Convention Center; The Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy Program of the City of Minneapolis; and Meet Minneapolis, Convention & Visitors Association, in collaboration with Northern

Last year, approximately 45,000 people attended Northern Spark events and more than 300 artists and performers participated.
