Now that open enrollment is over, take time to finish your 2013 health care tasks

During open enrollment, you looked ahead to 2014 and selected a health plan and decided whether to create flexible spending accounts for the coming year. While the paperwork related to those decisions is being processed, now’s the time to finish your 2013 health care tasks.

Spend your remaining 2013 FSA funds

If you still have unused money in your flexible spending account (FSA), you need to spend that money before Dec. 31, 2013. Unused money in your account will be forfeited.

Submit FSA claim requests

Mark your calendar to ensure you submit all claim requests for 2013 expenses by the deadline of April 15, 2014.

You can check your account balance and manage your account online at www.wageworks.com. The “Claims and Activity” page details your account activity and will alert you about any health care card transactions that need verification. If you prefer to use a paper claim form, the form can be found on the Benefits web page.

Check your benefits summary

In mid-December, log onto HRIS and go to “Benefits Summary” to verify that your 2014 benefits selections are correctly listed. (When you look at your benefits summary, be sure you have entered 2014 as the year you wish to view.)

Check your new ID card

In late December, Medica will send new Medica ID cards to all employees who enrolled in the City’s 2014 medical plan. When you receive the mailing, be sure to check that all the information listed on your new card(s) is accurate.
