MapIT makes it easier to create maps and share data
If you use data to create maps or share data that can be used by others to create maps or report information, the City has a new online application that makes it easier.
This new application — MapIT Minneapolis — can be used to create custom, interactive maps that can be easily embedded in a website. MapIT can also be used to report data and create maps and/or apps that display your data.
Using MapIT can mean spending less time responding to inquiries or searching for information. MapIT (formerly called GIS Online) is currently available to City employees and will be made available to the public this summer.
MapIT Minneapolis is administered by the IT GIS team. More than 100 City employees already use it and have created and shared more than 150 maps and data documents.
Anyone can view MapIT maps, apps and data; however, an account is needed if you wish to create, use or share data. To request an account, please contact the IT Service Desk and a GIS team member will contact you.
Staff interested in learning how to use the new application can choose an intro or advanced training session offered in April. To enroll in any of one of these three-hour classes, log onto HRIS and search the HRIS learning catalog for “MapIT.”
MapIT Minneapolis classes will be offered at the Public Service Center, 250 South 4th Street.

Tuesday, April 9: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, April 11: 1 – 4 p.m.
Tuesday, April 16: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday, April 16: 1 – 4 p.m.

MapIT for advanced users:
Thursday, April 25: 1 – 4 p.m.
