Many resources available to help you understand your open enrollment options

Open enrollment — the time of year when you re-enroll in your current health plan or switch to a new plan — runs through Friday, Nov. 16. As you determine which of the three networks to enroll in and whether you wish to create spending accounts for health care and/or dependent care, be sure to take advantage of the many resources available to answer your questions and help you through the process.

Deadline for action

To ensure you are enrolled in your preferred provider network at the correct contribution rate, you must complete your open enrollment by 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16. Employees who don’t select a medical plan option by Friday, Nov. 16 will be re-enrolled by default into their current network.

If you wish to have a 2013 flexible spending account for health care and/or dependent care expenses, you must specify your account amount as part of your open enrollment actions. (If you don’t take action, you will not have a flexible spending account in 2013. Your 2012 election will not automatically continue into 2013.)

If you’re ready to complete your open enrollment, log onto HRIS. The Open Enrollment Self Service Job Aide will walk you through the process. If you’ve forgotten your HRIS password or it has expired, call the BIS Service Desk at 1-800-262-3112.

Information packet: Be sure to read through the information packet that was mailed to all employees’ homes during the week of Oct. 22. The packet details the network options, benefits, premium costs, covered services and more.  

Online presentation: You can watch a brief videotaped presentation by clicking on the 2013 Open Enrollment web page and then clicking on the slide at the bottom of this web page.) The presentation provides an overview of the differences between the three networks and explains the annual deductible, co-insurance payment requirements and out-of-pocket maximum.

Hotline: You can call the Human Resources open enrollment hotline at 612-673-3333 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you call after hours, please leave a detailed message and a Benefits staff member will return your call.

Workplace meetings: You can attend one of presentations listed below to hear about the City’s health, dental and life insurance benefits as well as pre-tax accounts for health and dependent care expenses.
