Police Band to perform Oct. 18

The Minneapolis Police Band will be performing at the Village Shores Senior Community, 6501 Woodlake Dr., Richfield on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free concert.

Formed in 1917, the band was initially composed of police officers only. In 1919, civilian members were allowed to join the ranks, and in 1969 the first women were admitted. The band's first parade was in the Armistice Day Parade November, 1918.  In 2007 the Minneapolis Police Band was inducted into the Minnesota State Music Hall of Fame. The marching band has been the official escort band for the Minneapolis Aquatennial Parade since the parade began in 1940.
