Meet City Bikers
Garrett Bing – BIS Business Services
How often do you bike?
More than 5 times per week
What sort of trips do you make on your bike?
I bike from my home in the Cooper neighborhood, west on the Midtown Greenway, then north on the Hiawatha bike trail to 11th Avenue South. Then I take Washington Avenue to 4th Avenue South, and 4th Avenue to the Flour Exchange building.
Why do you choose to bike?
I share my car with my wife, and it is cheaper to ride my bike than take the bus or light rail. Also, it is great exercise.
What advice do you have for fellow employees who might want to try?
Use Google Maps to plan your route, since they offer bicycling directions, and stay safe. Be prepared for a commute without the road rage. Once you start biking to work, you'll never want to drive again.
Do you have a particular story that is a shining example of why you choose to bike?
I don't have one story in particular, but every morning on the Greenway I get to see squirrels, rabbits, birds, and I get to feel the sun in my face and the wind in my hair. There is something very rewarding about being able to travel at your own pace, without having to sit in traffic. I am lucky to live in Minneapolis, where there are numerous bike trails to get me all over town.
