April 15 is deadline for requesting reimbursement from 2011 Flex Account

If you haven’t used all the money you set aside in your 2011 Health Care Flexible Spending Account, be sure you’ve submitted all remaining health expenses by Sunday, April 15.  After this deadline, any money remaining in your 2011 account will be forfeited.

Please note: The April 15 deadline is only for your 2011 account — not your 2012 account. Also, remember that you may use your 2011 account funds only for expenses incurred in 2011 — expenses incurred in 2012 may not be paid from your 2011 account.

City of Minneapolis employee health care accounts are administered by OptumHealth Financial Services. If you have any questions, call OptumHealth at (763) 421-5510.

Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts are “use it or lose-it” accounts that employees voluntarily set up to pay for eligible health care expenses such as prescriptions, co-pays and eyeglasses with tax-free dollars.

Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts are different from HRA/VEBA accounts. Each month, the City of Minneapolis deposits an amount into your HRA/VEBA account to make pre-tax dollars available to you to pay for eligible health care expenses. Your HRA/VEBA account funds can be carried over from one year to the next year. (HRA/VEBA stands for Health Reimbursement Arrangement/Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association.)
