Beaches at Lake Hiawatha and Lake Calhoun temporarily close

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has closed Lake Hiawatha Beach and Lake Calhoun’s Thomas Beach after tests indicated that levels of E. coli bacteria exceeded State-specified guidelines.

There have been no reports of any illnesses from swimmers. These closed beaches will reopen once tests show levels below the State guidelines.

All other park beaches are open in Minneapolis, including Lake Calhoun’s North Beach. The 32nd Street Beach at Lake Calhoun had also closed, but has since reopened after further tests were done.

Beach water test results are posted on the park board’s website. Up-to-date information is also available at the park board’s beach hotline: 612-313-7713.
