Patience Ferguson named Minneapolis Human Resources Director
Minneapolis City Coordinator Paul Aasen has appointed Patience Ferguson as the City’s new Human Resources Director. Ferguson has been the Vice President, Human Resources for the YWCA of Minneapolis for the last nine years.
As HR Director, Ferguson will lead the City’s Human Resources department that works to recruit, hire, develop and retain an excellent workforce, so that the City of Minneapolis delivers high quality, cost effective services to its residents, businesses and visitors.In her role as HR Director, Ferguson will oversee approximately 48 employees that serve 18 City departments with a total staff of more than 3,700 employees. The position reports to City Coordinator Paul Aasen.
As the YWCA’s Vice President, Human Resources, Ferguson was responsible for leading Human Resources standards, strategies, policies and practices to ensure that they aligned with the mission of the YWCA. During her tenure, Ferguson handled the successful restructuring of two organizational businesses that increased efficiencies, improved business results and provided streamlined customer service. She was responsible for developing and implementing a results-based performance management process that decreased retroactive pay costs, improved employee morale, and decreased potential discrimination liability. Ferguson also developed strategies to create a culture of accountability and performance and also reduced employee turnover by 35 percent. The employee engagement strategy that Ferguson developed earned the “Best of Show” award from the Greater Twin Cities United Way two years in a row.
Ferguson has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree in Human Resource Development from the University of Minnesota. Patience received the 2010 Minority Corporate Executive of the Year award from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
