Closures to affect traffic on Hiawatha Avenue this weekend
Southbound lanes of Hiawatha Avenue will close to traffic this weekend. This is in addition to a complete closure of the highway already in place in both directions between 26th Street and Lake Street. The highway will be reopened in time for Monday morning rush hour.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, southbound lanes of Hiawatha Avenue, from Lake Street to 54th Street will close to all traffic. This closure will last until 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Intersections will remain open to traffic crossing Hiawatha and for vehicles turning onto northbound Hiawatha. This closure is part of construction to improve traffic signal timing along Hiawatha Avenue.
Meanwhile, Hiawatha Avenue will remain closed in both directions from Lake Street to 26th Street as part of Xcel Energy’s work to bury new high-voltage transmission lines. This section of the highway will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22. The bicycle and pedestrian crossing at 28th Street is being maintained throughout construction. For more information on the transmission line project, go to Xcel Energy’s project page at www.xcelenergy.com/hiawathaproject.
