Bike Walk to Work Day is June 7
As Bike Walk Week continues, it's time to get ready for Bike Walk to Work Day. Stop by the Bike Walk to Work Day celebration to enjoy performances and free snacks, talk with vendors and witness the national unveiling of the new bicycling “forever” postage stamps from the U.S. Postal Service.
The celebration is happening Thursday, June 7 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Central Library - 300 Nicollet Mall.
If you don’t want to walk or bike all the way to work, you can combine walking or biking with bus or train riding. Walkers can get off the bus or train at an earlier stop. Bicyclists can take advantage of the bike racks on trains and buses and bike part of the way to work. Or, ride the bus or train to work and then bike home at a leisurely pace.
If you want to try placing a bike on a bus rack, visit the Commuter Connection in the south tower of the U.S. Bank building. The skyway level shop has a bicycle and bus bike rack so you can practice placing a bike on a bus rack. The Commuter Connection also offers free bicycling maps and personalized trip planning. The Commuter Connection is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Last year more than 10,000 people took the Bike Walk Week pledge, choosing active transportation over car travel. Whether you’re trying out active commuting for the first time or you already bike or walk for transportation, be sure to sign up and be counted.
