Sheridan's population decreased from 1980 to 2000 by 6.8 percent. This contrasted with the citywide population trend, an increase of 3.1 percent.

Between 1980 and 2000, Sheridan gained 134 residents between 25 and 44 years old, but that did not offset losses in all other age groups. At the same time, the neighborhood lost 40 percent of its senior population.

Sheridan's ethnic distribution changed between 1980 and 2000 with the white population dropping from 96 percent to 76 percent – a decline of nearly 800 people. The increase of all other ethnic groups did not offset that decline in total population. Hispanics added 275 people, the black population increased by 130, the Asian population grew by 65 and there were about 40 more American Indians from 1980 to 2000.
