The neighborhood population declined from 1980 to 1990, but it rebounded in 2000. Northeast Park grew more than the City of Minneapolis did from 1990 to 2000. In 2000, Northeast Park had 882 residents.

Between 1980 and 2000 Northeast Park increased its population because of growing numbers of adult residents (30 percent) and children and adolescents (14 percent). Specifically the school-age population (those between 5 and 17 years old) grew by 20 percent. Following the general trend in most neighborhoods in the city, the senior population decreased by 36 percent.

Most of the neighborhood population is white, but this ethnic group has been decreasing since 1980 while others were growing. Whites, which made up 94 percent of the population in 1980, made up 72 percent in 2000. In the same period, the populations of blacks and Hispanics increased from 1 percent and 7 percent, respectively, to 10 percent each.
