Although Minnehaha gained population between 1980 and 1990, in 2000 it dropped below its 1980 level by 80 people, – 1.9 percent. In 2000 Minnehaha had 4,058 residents.

Parts of the adult population grew steadily in Minnehaha from 1980 to 2000. This growth, however, could not offset a population decline of children, adolescents, younger adults

The neighborhood population has historically had a white majority, but the proportion of minorities is increasing. Whites made up 96 percent of the population in 1980 and 86 percent in 2000, decreasing by almost 500 people. The number of people in the black, American Indian, Asian and Hispanic populations living in Minnehaha all increased steadily from 1980 to 2000.
