There was a 13-percent decline in Lynnhurst's population between 1980 and 2000, despite population increases citywide. There were 6,419 Lynnhurst residents in 1980 and 5,613 in 2000.

Much of the population loss in Lynnhurst can be attributed to a 20-percent decline in the child and adolescent populations from 1980 to 2000. Although the number of people ages 45 to 64 significantly increased in 2000, the total adult population declined by 8 percent. Declines were also seen in the population of residents aged 65 and over, which dropped by 21 percent.

Lynnhurst has a mostly white population – 94 percent in 2000. The Asian and Hispanic populations, however, more than doubled from 1980 to 2000.
