Between 1980 and 2000, the labor force participation rates in both Lyndale and Minneapolis made small increases. In 2000, 73 percent of Lyndale's population and 72 percent of Minneapolis' population over the age of 16 took part in the labor force.
In 2000, Lyndale had a lower unemployment rate than Minneapolis. Lyndale's unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, compared to Minneapolis' at 5.8 percent. The 2000 unemployment rate in the neighborhood was a sharp drop from its 9.3 percent peak in 1990.
