Lowry Hill East had 275 fewer residents in 2000 than in 1980. While Minneapolis' population grew 3.1 percent between 1980 and 2000, the neighborhood lost 4.4 percent of its population.

Lowry Hill East's population of children and adolescents declined 46 percent and its senior population declined 63 percent between 1980 and 2000. However, the adult population increased 7 percent, and in 2000, adults were 91 percent of the neighborhood's population.

All ethnic groups in Lowry Hill East increased between 1980 and 2000 with the exception of American Indians and whites. The white population, which made up 89 percent of the neighborhood population in 1980, declined by 11 percent and accounted for 83 percent of Lowry Hill East's residents in 2000.
