Lowry Hill East's labor force participation rate between 1980 and 2000 followed the citywide trend but at a higher level. In 2000, 88 percent of the working-age people in the neighborhood either had a job or were looking for one, compared to 72 percent in the city.

Lowry Hill East's unemployment rate steadily declined between 1980 and 2000 from a high of 5 percent, which was higher than Minneapolis' at the time. Since 1980, the neighborhood unemployment rate decreased significantly, and it was below the city level in 1990 and 2000.
