Lowry Hill's percentage of people under the poverty level was significantly lower than the citywide figure between 1980 and 2000. The neighborhood maintained an average of 8 percent during this period. Lowry Hill's percentage of people 65 years and older under the poverty level was also consistently below the Minneapolis figure during this period. The neighborhood reported its lowest level in 1990 – 4 percent – but by 1999 it had increased to 8 percent.

Lowry Hill's percentage of all families below the poverty level was significantly lower than the citywide figure between 1980 and 2000. Both the neighborhood and Minneapolis reported their highest levels in 1990, 6 percent and 14 percent respectively. The percentage of families below the poverty level with children under 18 in Lowry Hill was also lower than the citywide figure during this period. Lowry Hill reported no families with children living below the poverty level in 1980. That figure grew to 7 percent in 1990 and 8 percent in 2000.
