East Calhoun's population decreased 3.9 percent between 1980 and 2000. This contrasts with the city population trend that increased 3.1 percent.

There were fewer children, adolescents and senior residents in East Calhoun in 2000 than in 1980. The population of children under 5 years old increased 17 percent, while the school-age population in the neighborhood (between 5 and 17 years old) decreased by 24 percent. The senior resident population decreased by 60 percent in the same period. And although there were about 9 percent more adults in the neighborhood, the total neighborhood population dropped.

Nearly all ethnic groups in East Calhoun increased their numbers between 1980 and 2000. The exceptions were American Indians, whose population saw a 58 percent decrease, and whites, whose population decreased 11 percent. The white population made up 96 percent of the neighborhood's population in 1980, 95 percent in 1990 and 89 percent in 2000.
