Between 1980 and 2000, the Columbia Park neighborhood population increased by 3.6 percent, slightly more than the population of Minneapolis, which increased by 3.1 percent. Growth in the neighborhood took place in the 1990s, when Columbia Park added 160 more residents.

Between 1980 and 2000, Columbia Park became home to more older residents. In 2000 there were 111 more senior residents, 35 fewer children and adolescents and 12 fewer adults than in 1980. In general, the adult population decreased by 1 percent, even though those aged 25 to 44 increased by 30 percent.

Although Columbia Park's population is mostly white, there's been a dramatic increase in non-white residents. The white population dropped from 98 percent in 1980 to 79 percent in 2000 while the neighborhood added about 580 new residents of other ethnic groups.
