Poverty

The percentage of families living below the poverty level in Armatage stayed lower than the Minneapolis percentage between 1979 and 1999. In 1989, no families in Armatage lived below the poverty level, but in 1999 2 percent did. Armatage's percentage of families with children under 18 below the poverty level has also been significantly lower than Minneapolis' during this same time period. The neighborhood reported its highest level in 1999, when 2 percent of families with children under 18 lived below the poverty level.

Armatage has a significantly lower percentage of people living below the poverty level than the citywide average. 1989 was the neighborhood's lowest level at 1 percent compared to 19 percent that year citywide. The percentage of people 65 and older under the poverty level in Armatage was also well below the citywide figure in 1979 and 1989. The neighborhood percentage increased substantially between 1989 and 1999 to 8 percent but still remained below the Minneapolis figure of 11 percent.
