Between 1980 and 2000 the Armatage neighborhood population decreased by 12.3 percent, while the overall city population during the same time period increased by 3.1 percent.

The population in most Armatage age groups declined. The two exceptions were in the largest age group (ages 25 to 44) and the smallest one (85 and older). The biggest decreases were in the 18- to 24- and 45- to 64-year-old age groups. These two age groups declined 54 percent and 34 percent respectively between 1980 and 2000.

The white population in Armatage has been the predominant ethnic group: in 1980 it comprised 97 percent of the ethnic distribution, in 1990, 94 percent and in 2000, 90 percent. Between 1980 and 2000, the populations in all other ethnic groups increased. The largest increase was in the black population, which went from 32 people in 1980 to 155 in 2000.
